Project Overview
Our brief for this project was to create a bespoke courtyard garden design that allowed for lots of plants and seating options for our clients. This garden belongs to a London townhouse and is fairly small, which made our clients feel limited in their options. However, with the clever courtyard garden design and our landscaping experts, they now have a beautifully modern space that is suitable for gardening, entertaining and relaxing in private.
Courtyard Garden Design Plans
The courtyard garden design for this project focused on adding height to draw the eyes upwards and give the illusion of more space. It is common for homeowners in London to struggle with the size of their gardens, but creating the illusion of height through raised planters, tall structures, and layered planting designs can be an effective solution.
To align with the low-maintenance needs of our clients, the majority of the garden is hardscaped, which creates a beautiful contrast from the traditional property and natural elements in the space.
Cool-Toned Slate Paving
The foundation for this courtyard garden design is the beautiful slate patio, which is made using a combination of copper, green and blue paving slabs. The contrast of the colours with the property creates a stunning display and ensures the landscape remains low maintenance all year long.
Cedar Wood Raised Planters & Benches
As the garden is hardscaped, our clients were looking for new ways to add colour and natural interest to their landscape, which is why we created wooden planters. The dark hardwood creates a beautiful contrast to the cool-toned slate patio, and offers plenty of space for flowers, plants, and shrubs to be added in the future. Trees are already planted in some of the largest beds, allowing more space for smaller gardening projects in the future.
To enhance the appeal of these planters and offer more functionality to the garden design, the same Red Cedar wood was used to create benches at the rear end of the garden. There is now more space for the family to enjoy the warm weather, alongside their garden furniture and patio sets.
